Demonstrates Embarcadero’s Commitment to the Enterprise
San Francisco, Calif. - January 22, 2003
- Embarcadero Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: EMBT), a leading
provider of application and database lifecycle management solutions, today
announced a strategic partnership with Rocket Software, Inc., a provider of
software solutions for a number of global OEM partners. Under the agreement,
the two companies will immediately begin enhancing DBArtisan®, the market-leading
database administration solution, with exclusive features to support IBM® DB2 for
OS/390. This extension of support will greatly enhance the tool’s functionality and
features and will allow users to improve database administration across the
enterprise.
This partnership with Rocket signifies Embarcadero’s commitment to providing the
growing number of IBM users on the mainframe with DBArtisan’s innovative, user-friendly

"In a company like Aetna, the database is key to providing our customers with the

to ensure the quality of those databases," said Michael Mathias, director of database
and Internet technologies at Aetna. "As a long-time customer of Embarcadero
Technologies, we look forward to their extending OS/390 support which we feel will
further enhance the value of Embarcadero’s software to our enterprise."
"This partnership will yield compelling advantages to our customers," said Stephen
Wong, chief executive officer, Embarcadero Technologies. "For years, our enterprise
customers have asked us to extend DBArtisan to support DB2 on the mainframe.
By collaborating with Rocket Software and leveraging their vast domain expertise in
this area, we will accelerate the delivery of deeper support for DB2 on the mainframe.
DBArtisan for OS/390 will offer customers an attractive alternative for reducing the
total cost of managing database infrastructure on mainframe platforms."
"Rocket Software’s experience as a leading developer creating technology and building
software, with particular expertise in OS/390, makes our partnership with Embarcadero
a natural fit to develop DBArtisan for the OS/390 mainframe," said Andy Youniss, chief
executive officer, Rocket Software. "By leveraging our combined experience and
technology for the next-generation of DBArtisan, Rocket Software and Embarcadero
