|Developers Quickly Migrate Applications to Windows 8 with Embarcadero RAD Studio XE3|
Existing Applications Can be Easily Migrated to the New Windows 8 UI and Run On Older Windows OS Versions
SAN FRANCISCO — Oct. 26, 2012 — Embarcadero's RAD Studio XE3 customers worldwide are making the move to Windows 8 as Embarcadero paves the way for developers to embrace the benefits of the new Windows 8 user interface. With its new application development tools, RAD Studio XE3 enables developers to update existing Windows desktop apps to Windows 8 and the new Windows 8 UI style for both desktop and Slate tablet devices with integrated touch and device sensor support. Additionally, XE3 applications can be deployed across older versions of Windows from XP to Windows 7 with the new UI style, widely known by developers as 'Metro.'
Generally available today, Windows 8 provides a new distinct user interface with support for touch, gestures and live tiles across desktops, tablets and mobile devices. With thousands of apps already available, Windows 8 adoption will quickly increase and support for the new Windows UI style will become a competitive advantage.
"With today's release of Windows 8, Microsoft is moving the Windows user experience forward, impacting both enterprises and end-users and creating opportunity for software providers," said Michael Swindell, Embarcadero senior vice president of marketing and product management. "Windows 8 provides a productive, unifying interface across desktop and mobile platforms. With the Embarcadero tools, developers are on the fast track to bringing Windows 8 UI style applications to new and existing Windows desktops and Slate devices, as well as the announced Intel powered Surface Pro."
The new Embarcadero development products RAD Studio XE3, Delphi XE3, and C++Builder XE3, released in September, include Metropolis UI kit, the fastest path to the Windows 8 user experience. With Metropolis, the Windows 8 user experience does not require rewriting or developing new applications in Windows RT. Metropolis applications also have the distinct advantage of supporting the Windows 8 Style across multiple Windows desktop OS versions enabling developers to cover the widest population of PCs with the new Windows UI style.
