3D Train Studio Wins Embarcadero Cool App for February

Austin, Texas – March 7, 2017 - Embarcadero Technologies (a division of IDERA), a leading provider of software solutions for application development, today announced that the February winner of its Cool App contest is 3D Train Studio, which allows users to plan and simulate virtual model railroads. The application uses an online catalog with thousands of components – all created and uploaded by the community – to help people build realistic 3D trains and elaborate miniature worlds.

“The Embarcadero tools make our lives much easier on a daily basis, and we’re really excited to be honored with their Cool App award.”

With 3D Train Studio, users can construct their own unique, detailed layouts on their PCs with thousands of tracks to choose from. They can create landscapes consisting of mountains and valleys, place houses and trees along streets and roads and construct their own miniature worlds, with realistic 3D graphics and in real time. Users can also board their virtual model trains and simulate complete rail operations, including animated barriers, signals and road vehicles, automatically or by specially defined events.

“Everyone loves model trains, but most of us don’t have the time or dedication to accumulate all the materials necessary for a serious set,” said Jim McKeeth, lead developer evangelist and engineer at Embarcadero. “With the cool 3D Train Studio app developed using Embarcadero’s Delphi tool, users get the same sense of wonder as they would from a real train set by creating and navigating incredibly realistic, virtual miniature worlds.”

The 3D Train Studio offers a free entry into model train planning through its standard package. The professional version allows the planning and simulation of complex model railway layouts and includes additional content and features, such as sharing layouts with others, defining custom tracks and components and connecting to external applications such as Rocrail.

“We never could have developed 3D Train Studio so efficiently and with such an elegant UI way without Delphi,” said Stefan Werner of 3D Train Studio. “The Embarcadero tools make our lives much easier on a daily basis, and we’re really excited to be honored with their Cool App award.”

Embarcadero’s Cool App contest is open to any business or consumer application built with RAD Studio, Delphi or C++Builder. Qualifying apps can use VCL, FireMonkey, DataSnap, EMS, FireDAC, InterBase and any other components, libraries, services, sites, infrastructures, APIs or devices. Embarcadero awards Cool App contest winners a $500 Amazon gift card and winning submissions are also highlighted on the company’s YouTube channel.
