Robust Data Modeling and Rapid Software Delivery Enable Significant Time Savings and Improved Development Cycle

SAN FRANCISCO – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Embarcadero Technologies, a leading provider of software solutions for application and database development, today announced that its ER/Studio XE2 has been implemented by security leader Entrust to optimize its data modeling processes with a focus on reverse engineering and process documentation. AppWave was chosen as the delivery model for the ER/Studio software, allowing for rapid deployment across the organization.

“Entrust provides vital digital security services that keep personal, private data safe from fraud, and with Embarcadero’s robust data modeling tools and rapid software application delivery capabilities, Entrust can now meet the challenge of security more quickly and easily,” said Michael Swindell, senior vice president of marketing and products at Embarcadero. “ER/Studio is the fastest, easiest and most collaborative way for data modeling professionals to build and maintain enterprise-scale databases and data warehouses, and we’re looking forward to continuing our work with Entrust on future projects.”

Entrust provides identity-based security solutions for strong authentication, fraud detection, digital certificates, SSL and PKI to more than 5,000 organizations spanning 60 countries. Although Entrust secures and authenticates some of the most complex data in the industry, the company was using a “by-hand” approach to data modeling. Entrust needed a solution that would automate the data modeling process and provide robust reverse engineering and document processing capabilities. After evaluating several solutions, including CA ERwin®, ER/Studio was identified as the clear winner.

“Using ER/Studio, Entrust’s architects can diagnose and understand the impact of changes more effectively,” said Jason Soroko, Business Architect, Entrust. “Data modeling projects that used to take a minimum of six months now take a week with ER/Studio, and the rapid deployment of the software through AppWave takes our efficiency to the next level. The time savings that we experience alone have improved our processes radically.”

With ER/Studio, Entrust easily creates concise database object documentation from physical and logical levels and pulls in tables for reverse engineering. Embarcadero’s browser-based Portal provides self-service, web-based search and reporting for accessing and querying the ER/Studio Repository. Cross-model and Repository-wide data definition and object searches improve developers’ understanding of metadata, object whereabouts and data usage.

The Entrust team is using Embarcadero AppWave to deploy ER/Studio. A purpose-built enterprise app store for PC software, AppWave reduces the complexity of Windows applications by enabling users to search, browse and run Windows software titles instantly. With AppWave, Entrust data admins now have complete visibility into actual software usage and can make fast, fact-based decisions on what software to maintain and support.
