Embarcadero Technologies’ software development platform at the forefront of building connected apps for IoT

SAN FRANCISCO – September 24, 2014 – Embarcadero Technologies, a leading provider of software solutions for application and database development, recently added support for the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem with updates to the September 2014 release of Appmethod. Through expanded tethering and Bluetooth LE capabilities, the Appmethod software development platform now provides developers with tools for building apps for wearables, such as the Zephyr HxM Heart Rate Monitor.

Supporting a multitude of form factors, Appmethod continues to be at the forefront of building connected apps for IoT. The latest release of Appmethod includes the FireUI Multi-Device Designer, Stream Inheritance and user interface (UI) components, for building natively compiled C++ apps that connect mobile and desktop devices with the expanding landscape of devices, sensors, gadgets, wearables, cloud services, and data. With Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi support, as well as pre-built components for REST API services, Appmethod opens the door for developers looking to extend and build applications for the expanding IoT marketplace.

Within the health and fitness industry, developers can use the Appmethod platform to build next generation apps for wearables and devices such as the Zephyr HxM Heart Rate Monitor that capture biometric user data through sensors, which are then wirelessly tethered to a mobile device or PC. Apps can push notifications to other gadgets such as smart watches or HUDs (heads-up display) to keep the user informed of status, including life threatening health scenarios that may emerge. This information is also shared with a user's health care provider for ongoing monitoring, through secure connectivity with backend databases.

Appmethod is available immediately as a free download from appmethod.com.
