Embarcadero Technologies enables app development for the IoT marketplace, including the fast growing wearable tech sector

SAN FRANCISCO – October 2, 2014 – Embarcadero Technologies, a leading provider of software solutions for application and database development, continues to reinforce its strategy to help developers build connected apps for the Internet of Things (IoT) with its "Developing the Internet of Things Showcase," which highlights new devices and IoT platforms supported by the September 2014 release of Appmethod. This week's showcase feature is Android Wear from Google, and in particular the new Moto 360 smartwatch – Motorola Mobility's first entry for the next generation of 'wearable tech' built on the new Android Wear platform.

The Moto 360 serves as both a Heads Up Display (HUD) and connectivity bridge between Android smartphones and other smart devices, including sensors. Appmethod is the software development platform of choice for developers that want to build and connect apps for the new Moto 360 Smartwatch and other Android Wear devices as they are released to market.

"Wearable tech is one of the fastest growing sectors of the IoT market. Samsung has launched its mHealth initiative, and Apple is deeply integrating Healthkit and Homekit into its platforms and has recently announced Apple Watch," says Michael Swindell, Senior Vice President of Products at Embarcadero. "The growth of this interconnected landscape of devices is creating new opportunities for companies to extend the user experience of their business out to gadgets and wearables like the Moto 360, and has app developers racing to create the next "killer" connected app. Appmethod is making it easy for businesses and developers to quickly and easily build powerful interconnected solutions across phones, tablets, PCs, IOT sensors, gadgets and wearables, delivering amazing user experiences and interactivity."

Developing the Internet of Things Showcase

Appmethod is the leading application development platform for the Internet of Things, enabling developers to build apps for Android, iOS, Windows, OS X, and IoT devices such as the Moto 360. With Bluetooth LE, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support, as well as pre-built components for REST API services, Appmethod makes it easy for developers to create apps that support the plethora of new IoT devices and wearable tech being released to market.

With its "Developing the Internet of Things Showcase" Embarcadero Technologies is highlighting Appmethod's support for app development across new IoT devices each week this fall. Among the IoT devices featured to date are the Zephyr HxM Heart Rate Monitor and Google Glass.
