Since January 1, 2025, e-invoicing has been mandatory in Germany for the invoice recipient, meaning that companies must be able to receive and process e-invoices. This marks a major step toward the efficient digitization of invoicing processes and has become mandatory. According to the current schedule, the next obligations in the area of invoice creation will not come into effect until January 1, 2027. However, it is advisable to start addressing these now in order to be able to implement them in time. The basis for the implementation of the formats permitted for e-invoices in Germany is the European standard EN 16931, whereby XML or PDF and XML are essential components, depending on the format.
