Dealing with New Datatypes for Data Modeling

Industry expert Karen Lopez will share insights on using new datatypes to support advanced data concepts in physical data models

AUSTIN, TEXAS – November 2, 2015 – Embarcadero Technologies is hosting a webinar on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 to provide data modelers and architects with insights on the new datatypes that can make it easier to support more advanced data concepts in physical data models. Attendees will gain an understanding of the new datatypes that capture temporal and spatial information, and how data models can use these datatypes to implement advanced data concepts. The webinar will be hosted by Karen Lopez, a Microsoft SQL Server MVP and industry thought leader specializing in data modeling and database design.

Great Scott! Dealing with New Datatypes

In the past, datatypes were used to classify various types of data, including integers, characters, or alphanumeric strings. With the technologies introduced in recent years, these basic datatypes can’t address everything. Data modelers now need more specialized datatypes for specific needs and new formats. Multiple database platforms have introduced new datatypes that capture temporal and spatial information. These new datatypes can make it easier to support more advanced data concepts in physical data models. This webinar will provide insights for data modelers on the latest developments in the physical data modeling world and how to use the new datatypes.

Karen Lopez will discuss a variety of new datatypes including:

  • Temporal, such as period, with keywords
  • Spatial, including geospatial
  • Others, incorporating JSON/BSON/UBJSON usage
